This is my gear list for an extended trip during the summer or the shoulder seasons. Right now this one is being specifically tuned for the 8-day 75-mile trip I will take this fall. I will update it as it evolves.
I am becoming a “light” hiker. I embrace some of the ultra-light hiking mentality, but I refuse to give up some luxuries. I’m unlikely to ever have a sub-12 lb pack, but I can still manage a pretty light base pack weight:
Estimated base weight: 16 lb, 7.37 oz
Assuming an 8 day trip, total consumables weight will be approximately 20 lb, 11.8 oz. In that case all-up weight for a week should work out to about 37 lb., 3.17 oz. If we only take half the fuel and food and then re-supply at the halfway point (we can), consumables will only weigh approximately 12 lb, 7.90 oz, and the all-up weight becomes about 28 lb, 15.27 oz, which is a great weight.
